Student-Led Nonprofit Seeks to Build AI Literacy in Schools
Anna Du ’28, Ramzey Burdette ’28 and Yunzhu Chen ’28 launched their nonprofit earlier this year with two public events, one at the Brockton Public Library and the other at the Waltham Boys & Girls Club. Read the story.
 
Angad Chhibber ’28 Creates Robotic Octopus Arm
Angad designed and built a robotic octopus arm that utilized a cable-driven continuous backbone — inspired by the logarithmic spiral geometry of octopus tentacles — to achieve smooth curling motions. Read more about his project.

Mon., Dec. 8: Hear from Olin MechE Alumni and Engineers from Industry
1 p.m. - 2 p.m. / Norden Auditorium
MechE alums and a hiring manager in the industry will visit Olin to offer advice to current students while they are looking for jobs as they enter the workforce. Tues., Dec 9: Candlelight Vigil for Transgender Day of Remembrance
6:30 p.m. / The Common (CC 214)
The Office of Common Ground and Community will be holding a candlelight vigil for Transgender Day of Remembrance this Tues., Dec. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Common (CC 214). The event is open to the whole Olin community. We’ll begin with a reading of the names of those killed in 2025, followed by a time of warm beverages. (Feel free to bring a mug!) If you would like to volunteer to alternate reading names, please email Breauna Campbell (bcampbell@olin.edu). Please be mindful that many of our community members may be grieving and reflecting during this time. Be kind, make space and show solidarity. If you need support in any way, shape or form, remember that our R2s, PAs and mental health providers are always here for you, or find a time to meet with Jeanne Haley, the new Senior Director of Counseling.
 
Wed., Dec 10: Curriculum Redesign Class Share-Out
11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. / Crescent Room
The Curriculum Redesign class will share finalized project work with the community during this time. Please come for informal, tabletop small group conversations. Those who would like to join can drop in at any time and are encouraged to bring their lunch. The topics include: Reflection, Assessment/Competencies, Communities of Practice, Student Support, Transdisciplinary Engineering, and Humanist Engineering (with a focus on Civic Duty).
 
Thurs., Dec 11: DJS Social Impact Showcase
3:30 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. / Weissman Foundry (Babson College)
The Design Justice Studio (DJS) will host its Social Impact Showcase featuring students from Babson, Olin and Wellesley. The teams will give 5-minute summary presentations, followed by an interactive poster session for attendees to engage directly with students. RSVP here.
Final Events Schedule & Community Events Calendar
This year, activities open to the community will be published to the Olin Events Calendar in Outlook. Faculty may submit open events by filling out this form. Final open events can be submitted at any time to get them posted to the calendar, but please fill out the form at least a week before the event.
 
If you have not added the calendar to your Outlook account, you can do so by following these steps:
  • Open Outlook and go to the "Calendar tab."
  • In the top toolbar, click "Add Calendar."
  • Select "From Address Book."
  • In the search field, type "Olin Events Calendar."
  • Click "OK" and allow the calendar to sync.
The campus events will appear alongside your user calendar. Please reach out to Linda Canavan (lcanavan@olin.edu) with any questions.

Mon., Dec 15: Winter Unwind Party & Cookie Swap 

3 p.m. - 5 p.m. / The Library
The Library will host their annual Winter Unwind Party and Cookie Swap! There will be a photobooth, games, low-key crafting and excellent vibes. Those who would like to host an activity can reach out to the Library and/or Maggie Anderson (manderson@olin.edu). Fill out the Cookie Swap form
